Self-dispatching means searching, calling and filing in the hours you should be driving or sleeping. Here is exactly what you get when that work is ours.

What your dispatcher does on every load

Dispatching is six jobs that all happen while you are trying to drive. We take them off your plate, in this order, load after load.

  1. 1.We search the boards all day

Your dispatcher watches the load boards and broker portals for freight that fits your truck, your lanes and your home time.

  2. 2.We negotiate the rate

We call the broker and push for the number, checked against that week's market. We do not book below $2.00 a mile, and nothing is final until you approve the rate con.

  3. 3.We handle setup and the rate con

Carrier packets, insurance certificates and rate confirmations are filled in and checked, then sent to you to approve, so you are not doing it from a truck stop.

  4. 4.We plan the trip

Pickup and delivery appointments, miles and timing are worked out up front, with the next load lined up before you are empty.

  5. 5.We stay on the phone

Check calls, tracking updates and broker questions come to us, 24 hours a day. When traffic, a breakdown or a slow receiver gets in the way, we tell the broker and rework the schedule.

  6. 6.We send the invoice

Once the load delivers, the proof of delivery and invoice go to the broker or your factoring company, so the money is already moving while you roll to the next pickup.

We earn when you earn

A percentage of each load, charged after you have been paid. No setup fee, no weekly minimum, nothing owed on a week you sit.

How a load runs, and when anyone gets paid

  1. 1

    We book the load

    Never below $2.00 a mile.

  2. 2

    You approve the rate con

Nothing is final until you say yes.

We confirm the appointment and send the details.

  4. 4

    Delivery

We track it in and collect the paperwork.

  5. 5

    You get paid

By the broker or your factoring company.

The brokers we book with

A broker will not tender a load until your carrier packet is approved. We prepare and submit the packet, insurance certificate and W-9 ahead of time, so an approval never costs you a day.

The market we are booking into this week

A dispatcher is only as good as their read on rates and fuel. These are the latest published national figures, and the benchmark we negotiate against.

Five documents and you are on the board

Onboarding is paperwork you already have. Send it once, we build your broker packets from it, and your dispatcher starts booking.

  1. 1. MC number

Your motor carrier number from the FMCSA, which identifies your operating authority.

  2. 2. W-9 form

Brokers need it on file for tax reporting before they can pay you.

  3. 3. Certificate of insurance

Proof of the liability and cargo coverage brokers require.

  4. 4. Notice of assignment

If you factor your invoices, this tells brokers to pay your factoring company.

  5. 5. Commercial driver's license

A copy of the CDL for each driver who will be on the truck.

Stay compliant and keep hauling

One missing record can put a truck out of service. We go through your FMCSA paperwork and tell you what needs fixing before an inspector does.

Questions carriers ask first

Something else on your mind? Call +1 (828) 203-6854 and ask a dispatcher directly.

Is Routelane a freight broker?
No. We are a dispatch service that works for the carrier. Loads are booked under your authority, the rate confirmation is in your name, and the broker pays you or your factoring company.
Do I need my own authority?
Yes. You need an active MC number and insurance. We ask for your MC number, W-9, certificate of insurance and CDL during onboarding.
How do you charge?
A percentage of each load: 5% for dry van and reefer, 10% for box truck and hotshot. It is due after you have been paid for that load, so a week without freight costs you nothing.
Who decides which loads I take?
You do. We do not book below $2.00 a mile, and no load is final until you approve the rate confirmation.
Do I need my own load board subscription?
No. Routelane pays for the boards we search. If you already have an account you prefer, we can work from that instead.
When can I reach someone?
Any time. The desk is covered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by phone and WhatsApp.
What is Routelane TMS?
It is the system our dispatchers use to track loads and paperwork. Carriers do not need a login. If you are a Routelane dispatcher, sign in here.
